Kentai Karate was founded by its
chief instructor Jonathan Little (4th Dan). 2002 marked his 10th
anniversary as a professional trainer. Jonathan is registered with
the EKGB and affiliated to the federation of English Karate. He
is also a qualified fitness instructor/personal trainer.
Competitors training with Jonathan Little have been very successful,
competing right up to world level (i.e. fighting for the Federation
of English Karate Organisations at the 1999 World Karate Confederation
championships in Germany). Kentai students have the opportunity
to compete in many competitions throughout the country as well as
an annual club championship locally.
The definition of Kentai means two things
serving one purpose, this relates to the sporting and traditional
aspects of Karate. The club is Wado-Ryu based, a style of karate
that can be thought of as the progeny of Okinawan karate and Japanese
ju-jutsu and kendo. From Okinawan karate comes the hard punches
and kicks, and from ju-jutsu and kendo the use of body movement
and joint locks and pins. It is a system that uses your whole body,
close in and at range. This style of karate is an excellent method
of self defence; it can build confidence and self discipline as
well as improve fitness.
The Kentai organisation has clubs
all over Cumbria and North Lancashire, teaching separate classes
for children (6-12yrs) as well as teenagers, men and women of all
ages.
Beginners are always welcome.
